301. Japanese Linden

Japanese Linden

Tilia japonica

Accession 10859*A

The seed for this Japanese linden was collected in Japan in 1919 by Arboretum plant collector Ernest Wilson. The tree’s heart-shaped green leaves appear in spring. In early summer, the Japanese linden grows fragrant, pale yellow blooms. In fall, its leaves yellow and drop. Winter yields an opportunity to compare the tree’s shape and branch architecture with its closely related neighbors.
